Oscar Isaac Cast as Solid Snake in Long-Gestating Metal Gear Solid Film

Oscar Isaac has been cast as Solid Snake in Sony’s upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation, according to Deadline.

Isaac is known for his role as Resistance fighter Poe Dameron in the recent Star Wars trilogy and will appear as Duke Leto Atreides in Dune. His selection suggests a strong fit for the iconic video game protagonist.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the film, which remains in active development. The project has faced a lengthy gestation period, with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima first announcing plans for a movie back in 2006.

Deadline reports that a production start date is still unknown, indicating the movie is not expected to release soon. However, Isaac’s casting may signal forward momentum for the long-delayed adaptation.

Other video game films, such as the Uncharted movie, have also endured extended development cycles. Uncharted has reportedly filmed scenes after over a decade in the works, offering a potential positive precedent for Metal Gear Solid.
